TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Tsunami-HANDAID is a neutral organization which is not religiously nor politically based. We provide school facilities for basic education, as well as housing, to children and families who have been affected by disasters in various communities across the world. We also provide these services to those who live in severely disadvantaged areas. Volunteers donate their time and participate actively by organizing fundraising events and/or by dedicating their time and skills on the building site, at their own expense. Through the process of each project, the volunteers and the local community interact and work together towards a common goal. As a direct result, all the participants have the opportunity to become more culturally aware and accepting. All building materials are locally sourced and projects support local workers within the community.
All administration work, both in Switzerland and the areas we are active in, is done on a volunteer basis. As a result, our overhead costs are minimal and almost all the funds raised go directly into our projects. After completion, the sites are revisited to ensure a long term gain for the local community and to monitor that the original purpose is maintained.
