2019 October – Northern Sri Lanka
In October 2018, a project was launched build a brand new school building in an existing school in a beautifully terraced tea estate. In October 2019, a second group of volunteers continued in the same location to add a first floor to the new building, providing 4 more classrooms (Grade 9, 10, 11 and 12), a library, an IT room and a music room, Art/Drama room.
The school is situated in the scenic mountains of Knuckles Range in Madulkelle in the Kandy region. Tea has been one of the main incomes in Sri Lanka and the school is surrounded by tea plantations. The volunteers participated in the construction work on the building site as well as in some leisure activities (see our FAQ and testimonials for more details about the working conditions).
Local workers will complete the building in the coming months to have the additional classrooms ready for the new school year.
