Tsunami-HANDAID and the pandemic

As for most people on this planet, Covid-19 has had an impact on our operations. The areas we operate in have been on lockdown and travel restrictions have made it almost impossible to reach out project sites. Organizing working holidays for volunteers has not been possible since 2020 and there have been many restrictions to hold fund raising events.

Nevertheless, we have stayed in close contact with our supporters and the local representatives in Sri Lanka. We supported the completion of the second phase of the Madulkelle project, which was initiated in 2018 with a second phase which started in October 2019. In 2021 we organised and financed the construction of a classroom and community library as well as sanitary facilities in Kadegama, Sri Lanka. Additionally, we have reviewed many proposals for future projects and worked behind the scenes. If all goes well, we will be able to travel to Sri Lanka with a group of volunteers soon. Any updates will be posted here. Now more than ever working towards a common goal and giving support to communities in less favourable economic conditions is an important and rewarding task.
